In the book, The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable, Nassim Nicholas Taleb describes how people discount the possibility of highly improbable events when planning for the future:
A black swan is a highly improbable event with three principal characteristics: It is unpredictable; it carries a massive impact; and, after the fact, we concoct an explanation that makes it appear less random, and more predictable, than it was. The astonishing success of Google was a black swan; so was 9/11. For Nassim Nicholas Taleb, black swans underlie almost everything about our world, from the rise of religions to events in our own personal lives.
The Planet B Project is a deliberate attempt to create a positive black swan event by solving the wicked problems defined by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This can be accomplished by creating the mechanical infrastructure to address the physical challenges, such as providing sustainable energy for everyone, and by developing a socioeconomic system to address the challenges of historical power imbalances within society.
Those who choose to participate in the Planet B Cooperative will participate in a voluntary experiment to develop a fairer, more equitable, and sustainable system.
Those who choose not to participate can continue to participate in the chaos of the "free market" of globalism. Those who choose to move forward can help demonstrate how replacing national pride and hubris, which is on course to destroy the biosphere, in the pursuit of meaningless hoarding of wealth and power by truly evil people.
